“I Thought I Needed to Change My Body Before Booking a Boudoir Shoot — I Was Wrong” Empowering boudoir photography

One of the most common things women say to me before booking a boudoir empowering photography session is:

"I just want to lose a little weight first."

Or…

"Maybe in a few months when I feel more confident."

When Sarah first reached out to me, she said almost the exact same thing.

She told me she had been following my work for over a year but kept talking herself out of booking a session because she didn’t feel “ready.” She thought she needed to change her body before she deserved to be photographed in such a vulnerable and intimate way.

And honestly? So many women feel that way.

We live in a world that constantly tells women they need to shrink themselves before they’re worthy of feeling beautiful. That confidence is something you earn after changing your body. But sitting across from Sarah during our consultation, I could already see what she couldn’t see yet. She was already enough exactly as she was.

She told me she avoided mirrors. She hated photos of herself. She said she hadn’t felt sexy in years. Not because anyone told her she wasn’t beautiful, but because somewhere along the way, she stopped believing it herself.

The morning of her boudoir session, she admitted she almost cancelled.

She walked into the studio nervous, covering herself with her arms, apologising for her body before we had even started. And that broke my heart a little, because I see so many incredible women do the exact same thing.

But something beautiful happened during her session.

Slowly, little by little, she started relaxing.

She laughed. She stopped overthinking. She started trusting herself.

By the middle of the shoot, she was moving with confidence, hyping herself up, smiling between poses and saying things like:

"Wait… that’s actually me?"

And yes. It was her.

Not a different version of her. Not a smaller version. Not a “fixed” version.

Just her.

Beautiful exactly as she already was.

When she came back to view her images, she cried.

Not because the photos made her look like someone else, but because for the first time in a long time, she saw herself with kindness instead of criticism.

She told me:

"I spent so much time thinking I needed to change my body before doing this… but this experience is actually what changed the way I see myself."

That’s why I love boudoir photography so much!

It’s not really about lingerie or posing perfectly or looking “sexy enough.” It’s about helping women reconnect with themselves again. It’s about confidence, healing, self-love and seeing your body as worthy right now, not ten kilos from now.

Every woman who walks into my studio brings insecurities with her. Every single one.

And every single one leaves differently.

Not because boudoir magically fixes everything, but because sometimes we need the opportunity to finally see ourselves the way the people who love us already do.

Strong. Beautiful. Soft. Powerful. Enough.

So if you’ve been waiting to book your session until you “feel better” about yourself, this is your reminder that you do not need to earn confidence before stepping in front of the camera.

You are already worthy of being celebrated exactly as you are today.

And maybe, just maybe, the confidence you’ve been waiting for is on the other side of saying yes to yourself!
